About Wellington’s Specialties

Orthopaedics is the medical specialty that focuses on injuries and diseases of your body’s musculoskeletal system. This complex system includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves and allows you to move, work, and be active. Orthopaedists care for patients of all ages who have a wide variety of injuries or diseases.

To best serve the needs of our patients, Wellington Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine has physicians who are both surgeons and non surgeons. The physicians currently in the practice include experts in general and subspecialty areas of Orthopedic Surgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Podiatry, and Sports Medicine. All are considered specialists after completing four years of study in a college or university, four years of study in medical school and 4-5 five years of training in a residency at a major medical center.

While our physicians are familiar with all aspects of the musculoskeletal system, several have chosen to specialize in certain areas, such as the foot and ankle, spine, hip, knee or shoulder. They may also choose to focus on specific fields like tumor surgery, trauma or sports medicine. Some of our physicians specialize in several areas.

Once a person is trained as an orthopaedic surgeon, there are two primary ways that a physician can become a specialist in a specific area. In many situations, the physician completes an extra year of training after the completion of residency. A second was is for the physician to develop an expertise independently by focusing his practice.
