K. Premanand (K.P.) Nayak, MD

Dr. Nayak's desire to become a physician stems from the deep compassion he felt for the people of his native India. "I grew up in a region surrounded by people who were poor with limited medical help. They needed so much, and I wanted to be the one to provide some of it." For years he worked in a government hospital in India, providing his services for free to the neediest of his patients. Dr. Nayak completed four years of residency and became a board certified surgeon. Eventually he moved to Canada to specialize in orthopaedics. After becoming board certified, he and two associates established a practice in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, a town of 35,000. "As the only orthopaedic physicians in the region, we were busy!"

Dr. Nayak moved to the eastern Cincinnati suburbs in 1980, and practiced solo for 14 years before joining his colleagues in group practice.

Dr. Nayak's enthusiasm for his work is so infectious, his two sons also became orthopaedic surgeons. He is happy to work side-by-side with son, Dr. Suresh Nayak, a Wellington physician. Another son practices in Marietta, Ohio. Dr. Nayak also has a daughter, and is "grandpa" to seven.

Every orthopaedic surgeon knows the importance of good bone health. "I continually advise my patients to quit smoking and to lose weight if they want healthy bones," he explains. His wife, Suneethi, makes sure he practices what he preaches. "She insists I walk three miles a day and follow a vegetarian diet."

As of 2007, Dr. Nayak no longer performs surgery; however, he continues his office orthopaedic practice.
