Patrick J. Messerschmitt, M.D.
Dr. Patrick Messerschmitt is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Hand and Upper Extremity surgery. Originally from Cincinnati, Dr. Messerschmitt completed medical school at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honor distinction. He went on to pursue a General Surgery internship and Orthopaedic Surgery residency at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. During his residency in Cleveland, Dr. Messerschmitt completed the Allen research fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery, studying molecular signaling of bone cancer. He has received multiple research awards, presented projects at national and international meetings, and authored several journal articles and book chapters.
Following the conclusion of his Orthopaedic residency, Dr. Messerschmitt pursued fellowship training in Hand, Upper Extremity & Microvascular surgery at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. During his fellowship, Dr. Messerschmitt was exposed to and gained extensive experience treating all aspects of adult and pediatric hand disorders, under the direction of four nationally and internationally established hand surgeons.
Dr. Messerschmitt currently is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He was selected and has served on three national committees for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Messerschmitt is experienced in the treatment of all conditions affecting the hand and upper extremity, including fracture care and trauma, arthritis, carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndromes, sports injuries, reconstructive surgery, nerve disorders, trigger digits, and other forms of tendonitis. For patients requiring surgical treatment, Dr. Messerschmitt has specialization in arthroscopic, endoscopic, and minimally-invasive techniques.
Dr. Messerschmitt resides in the Village of Newtown, within Cincinnati, Ohio, with his wife and three children. When not busy at work, he enjoys family time, snow skiing, travel, exercise, and cooking.
