For kids and teens, the warmer months of the year often involve playing sports. But certain sports, such as soccer and baseball, come with an inherent risk of getting a concussion.

Proper training

Proper training can help your child improve their hand-eye coordination, agility, and general conditioning. Practicing basic skills will not only help keep your child safer, but it will also ensure they have a strong foundation. 

Full-contact sports, such as hockey or football, should wait until a child is at least age 13. The risks to developing brains from sustaining a concussion are too great for young children.

Proper equipment

Check to make sure that your child’s team isn’t using any out-of-date or worn-out helmets, as old or bad equipment may not protect your child as well. Furthermore, make sure the helmets are made for the sport your child is playing.

However, even while wearing a helmet, concussions are still possible. So it’s important to still follow proper safety procedures.
