About Dr. Nicholas Early

Nicholas Early, MD, is a board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Wellington Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine. He sees patients at the practice’s Anderson and Eastgate locations in Cincinnati, and has extensive experience in cartilage restoration surgery of the knee and complex reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder.

Dr. Early completed his undergraduate studies at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He stayed in Ohio to complete a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Cleveland Clinic Akron General in Akron, and finished his medical training with a fellowship in sports medicine at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. He’s currently affiliated with Mercy Health-Anderson Hospital in Cincinnati and Mercy Health-Clermont Hospital in Batavia, Ohio.

Dr. Early has comprehensive experience working with athletes of all ages and levels of competition. He has served as an assistant team physician for the Columbus Clippers Triple A minor league baseball team and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  He is currently the team physician for New Richmond High School and Miami Valley Christian Academy.  He also assists in the medical care of Cincinnati’s professional soccer team, FC Cincinnati.

In addition to treating patients, Dr. Early spends time contributing to the growth of his field. He has served as an instructor on arthroscopic techniques at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago.  He has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and presented research at numerous local, regional, and national meetings. He’s currently a candidate member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

In his free time, Dr. Early enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and spending time with his wife, family, and dogs.
