Nearly 20 years ago, Dr. Ed Miller performed what is believed to be the first modern type of hip replacement in this country. At the time, he was chief resident at the University of California when the new technique first became known in the United States.

Today, Dr. Miller is proud of that accomplishment and continues to teach reconstructive techniques to surgeons around the world. His lectures have taken him around the world, from Japan to Peru to Canada. Among his favorite places are Europe and South America. "I always say the two places that look even better than their postcards are Switzerland and Hawaii," he explained.

Dr. Miller was on alert to travel to the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm. As a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps, he was placed on standby in case of many casualties. "They were expecting 8,000 injuries the first week, and only got six--thank goodness," said the board-certified physician.

Dr. Miller, who is also accredited by the American Board of Forensic Examiners, often provides expert medical opinions in legal cases. Said Dr. Miller, "I believe all physicians need to participate in providing the legal system with the information they need to properly evaluate cases."

Born in Texas and raised in San Francisco, Dr. Miller now resides in Indian Hill with his wife of 40 years.
