Marcheschi, Edward A., MD
While all Wellington physicians specialize in the care of bones, muscles and joints, Dr. Ed Marcheschi offers a unique perspective as an internist and one of Wellingtons two specialists in primary care sports medicine.
Dr. Marcheschi diagnoses and manages various musculoskeletal injuries, whether acute or chronic. He provides high quality sports medicine care which, Dr. Marcheschi says, requires the ability to make sound clinical judgment, recognizing the value of non-invasive diagnostic tests, and to personalize care to the patients lifestyle. Whether prescribing rehabilitation or an exercise program, my goal is to return my patients to their previous level of activity as soon and as safely possible. Dr. Marcheschi is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and has presented at the national conference of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine.
As a primary care sports medicine physician, board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Marcheschi can provide comprehensive medical care. Illnesses such as infectious mononucleosis or exercise-induced shortness of breath, though not related to a specific injury, can be just as debilitating to the athlete if not recognized and managed appropriately, he explains.
Nearly 10 years of post-graduate training prepared him for this unique role. After completing a residency in internal medicine at Cincinnatis University Hospital, he went on to sub-specialize in sports medicine. He completed an 18-month fellowship at Methodist Sports Medicine Center, a nationally recognized primary care sports medicine program in Indianapolis. He has conducted research in the field of sports medicine and participated in a published study of hamstring injuries in professional football players with the Indianapolis Colts.
An avid sports fan himself, Dr. Marcheschi enjoys playing tennis, basketball and soccer. He has served as a team physician for athletes of various levels, from high school to professional, and describes his work with the NFL Indianapolis Colts as an extremely rewarding experience.
Returning to Cincinnati is a source of both professional and personal satisfaction for Dr. Marcheschi. He recognizes Wellington as a premier sports medicine institution and joined, he says, to be part of a sports medicine practice that is recognized for its ongoing education and contributions to the field of sports medicine. Having been raised on the citys westside, hes pleased with the opportunity to care for the community where I lived.
