Sprains

A sprain occurs when a ligament is stretched or torn. Although sprains are most common to knees, wrists, ankles and fingers, any joint can be sprained. Usually the result of a twisting injury, sprains cause pain and swelling, often accompanied by a popping or tearing sensation.

Ice treatments for 15-20 minutes two-four times daily accompanied by anti-inflammatory drugs and elevation of the affected area will usually bring relief. An ace bandage may also assist the healing process. If weight cannot be applied or symptoms persist, seek medical assistance.
