Dr. Robert Rhoad brings to Wellington the skills of hand surgeon and the perspective of a musician. The doctor's passion for guitar, piano and percussion instruments translates into a keen understanding of the relationship between our hands and the expression of our inner-most thoughts and emotions. "The hand is a vital extension of the individual. It is the means by which we reach out to the world - to earn a living, express who we are, and connect with others," the surgeon explains. "Everyone has different needs. Each person uses their hands for a separate, but equally important, personal expression. I try to understand the whole person to better learn how I may serve their individual needs." After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction from the University of Virginia, Dr. Rhoad embarked on his medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He served as an intern and resident in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and edited the University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal. Dr. Rhoad also completed a research fellowship at the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory and served as a Diplomate on the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Rhoad joined Wellington after studying under a Fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at The Hand Center of San Antonio, TX. While in Texas he also served as Assistant Instructor, Department of Orthopaedics, at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Rhoad has co-authored numerous articles, abstracts and national presentations related to orthopaedic medicine and hand surgery. He is married with two sons. |
