William R. Fitz, M.D.

Dr. Bill Fitz joined the Wellington orthopaedic team on a full-time basis in 1991. As a physiatrist, he specializes in non-surgical care for those with back and spine problems.

"Physiatry focuses on diagnosis, management and treatment," explained Dr. Fitz. Using braces, injections and rehabilitation techniques, Dr. Fitz can often avoid the operating room altogether. "I believe people would rather be treated non-surgically, if they have the option," said the physician, who is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Fitz, a native of Stark County, Ohio, received his bachelor of science degree from Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. He completed his medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, where he also performed his internship and residency. He has extensive experience with the Bureau of Workers' Compensation and several rehabilitation programs.

Dr. Fitz is also board certified in electrodiagnostic medicine, which uncovers problems relating to muscles and nerves.

Married and a father of four, Dr. Fitz sees patients of all ages at many of the Wellington offices. "Everybody gets back pain, regardless of their age," he said. "After all, back pain is second only to the common cold in commonality."
